Grand larceny carries a sentence of 4 to 25 years. Like with embezzlement, grand larceny punishment depends on the multitude of the theft; however, for a crime to fall into this category, it has to be connected to property that amounts to $1,000 or more.

Petite larceny is the smallest of crimes in the theft category and can lead to time spent in jail for up to 1 year. Any theft crime connected to property that amounts to $1,000 or less will be categorized as a petite larceny.
